Chapter 85: A Problematic Person

July 1st.

Compared to June, the mere mention of July conjured an unconscious sensation of oppressive heat. While Yomikawa Tsuko couldn't say she hated the month, she certainly held no fondness for it.

Today was the day she was scheduled to supervise Takada Shōji and Katayama Mao’s photoshoot at the school, so she had risen early.

As she had anticipated, there were no immediately discernible changes to her body. After waking, she meticulously re-checked all the visible data points—height, weight, physical features—and compared them to her previous records. Aside from a slight fluctuation in weight, everything was identical.

The designated wish, two days late and still no sign of it.

The thought sparked an almost instinctual flicker of hope, a dangerous sense of relief. If it hasn't happened after two days, then surely, I should be safe for a while.

The exchange of physical information between her and Senpai was, at this point, essentially perfect. For things to simply stop here, for there to be no further alterations, was a conclusion she would welcome.

But that very thought, that sense of near-powerlessness, chafed at her.

Hmph. Even if there are more changes, with my ability to adapt, it will hardly be an issue.

With that thought, Yomikawa ate her breakfast, changed into her school uniform, and stepped out of the villa.

A wave of hot air hit her in the face. She narrowed her eyes against the glare and began the walk to school.

On the way, she took out her phone and sent a message to Nakamori Manatsu on LINE.

"Manatsu-san, I've just left. Don't be late."

Nakamori Manatsu’s social circle was small, with Yomikawa at its core. So when Yomikawa had invited her to meet at the school on Sunday, she had agreed immediately.

According to the plan, Manatsu was an indispensable component. If she didn't show up today, the entire operation would be rendered meaningless.

"I just left too. It's a bit hot today, isn't it? And it's only going to get hotter. I really hate summer. Always so sweaty."

"There's nothing to be done about that. At least summer vacation is almost here."

Yomikawa’s brow furrowed at the word ‘sweaty’. So that’s it. A sudden realization. Those clothes in Senpai’s wardrobe… are they for preventing sweat stains in the summer?

It made a certain kind of sense. Girls were different from boys. A boy could wear a shirt or a T-shirt directly against his skin without any issue. But for a girl to do the same… that was a different story. A white blouse, dampened with sweat, would become almost transparent. To not wear another layer underneath would mean revealing the straps of her bra, a source of embarrassment for everyone involved.

Yomikawa thought back. It was true. In all her life, she had never seen a woman’s bra showing through her clothes due to sweat in the summer. Tanaka Erika, the other girls in her class… she had never once found this strange before.

Being a girl is such a hassle! No matter how you look at it, wearing an extra layer of clothing will definitely make you hotter. If you’re even a little active, it wouldn’t be surprising to get heatstroke.

No wonder it always seems like more girls than boys take sick leave due to heatstroke. So that’s the reason.

And speaking of hassles, menstruation is an even bigger one. No, it’s probably the biggest one.

I’ve seen countless women complaining online, asking why men don’t have periods, why they don’t have to experience this kind of pain. Are they saying these things because the pain is truly unbearable, or just because they’re being delicate?

If it’s just a matter of being delicate, then it probably won’t affect me much. But if the pain is truly severe, that could be a problem.

Speaking of which, when is Senpai’s period due?

At this thought, Yomikawa’s brow furrowed again.

On the night of June 17th, she and Senpai had exchanged bodies. More precisely, it was “Hanako wished for her body to become as alluring as Natsuhime’s.” If it was merely a change in appearance, then even if she were on her period at that time, there might not have been any reaction.

But to be on the safe side, by June 22nd, even things like my chromosomes would have been exchanged with Senpai’s. From that point on, I was completely female. Calculating from that date, my period will definitely come before July 22nd.

But if I calculate from June 18th, then it will come within the next two weeks.

Damn it. No matter what, it’s going to happen while I’m on Mie Island.

I’ll have to be prepared for that, too. I absolutely cannot let any blood stain my clothes. Especially with that Manatsu girl around. Her powers of observation are far too keen.

Thinking of Nakamori Manatsu, a flash of inspiration suddenly struck Yomikawa. That day before gym class, when they had changed clothes together…

So that’s it. So that’s it.

That’s how she noticed something was wrong with me, Yomikawa murmured to herself.

Senpai’s wardrobe was filled with an astonishing number of undershirts. Every time she went to find something to wear, she had wondered why Senpai had bought so many. They were in all different colors, from dark to light, and in various sizes and styles.

In other words, Senpai was in the habit of frequently wearing an undershirt. That’s why she had so many.

And that’s why, that afternoon during gym class, Nakamori Manatsu was looking at me with that strange expression in the locker room.

And after we left the locker room, during the break before class started, she even tried to probe me with her words. Now that I think about it, was that the reason?

She had noticed that Yomikawa Tsuko—who always wore an undershirt—was not wearing one that day.

With that thought, Yomikawa looked down at her own clothes.

I’m not wearing an undershirt today either. I’d better go back and put one on. If we’re already into July and I’m still not wearing one, it will definitely arouse even more of her suspicion.

Speaking of which, that girl is very good at hiding her thoughts. I haven’t worn an undershirt this whole time, so Manatsu must have found it very strange. But she’s managed to hold back from asking about it.

Yomikawa let out a soft snort. This feeling of suddenly understanding something, it was quite… pleasant.

A shame. I rarely had this feeling before. My daily life was like a glass of plain water.

After walking a dozen more steps with a newfound lightness in her step, Yomikawa suddenly stopped, her expression changing.

Damn it, what am I so pleased about? It took me this long to notice something so obvious. I’ve been far too slow.

Pressing her lips together tightly, Yomikawa mentally chastised herself. How could she get so cocky over such a small thing? When she had accomplished her three set goals, then she could celebrate. Not before!

Turning a corner, Yomikawa saw something up ahead that made her stop in her tracks. She quickly ducked back behind the wall, her eyes widening slightly.

She had seen a figure, furtively peering around the front of the villa, like a thief casing a joint before a burglary.

And more importantly, it was a figure she recognized. That person was also wearing a Suzaku High third-year girls’ uniform, her hair in those same, frumpy braids, her figure unusually tall for a girl—Nakamori Manatsu.

That girl… she’s definitely a problem.
