Original Author Note

And with that, this work comes to a close—for now. Thank you very much for sticking with me through such a long series.

To all the kind readers who pointed out typos and took the time to leave so many thoughtful comments: as an author, I couldn’t be more grateful. This story had the highest word count and most intense update schedule I’ve ever attempted, and honestly, it was pretty exhausting. But at the same time, writing it was the most fun I’ve ever had.

I also want to thank my mentor and fellow writers who supported me along the way. I’m sincerely grateful for all the advice and feedback you gave me.

Now then, as I always do, allow me to talk a little about myself. It’s going to be a bit of a ramble, so if you’re not interested, feel free to skip it.

Some of you may have noticed already, but this story shares its setting with my previous work—one that featured a sub-heroine as the protagonist in a different world.

Normally, I try to avoid bringing in characters from previous works. I believe it’s unfair to leave new readers behind, and I aim to make each story stand on its own. So ideally, I wouldn’t bring back older characters at all.

You might be thinking: “Well then, why include them in the first place?” And honestly, I think you’d be absolutely right. A story should be able to stand on its own, without relying on characters from works with a different title. Bringing them in to move the plot forward—personally, I think that’s not a great approach.

So then, why did Yury appear?

Well… to be honest, I was writing this story without a solid plot from about the middle onward.

Due to COVID, things got really slow at my workplace for a while, so I had a lot of free time early on. But eventually, work returned to normal levels of busyness, and I could no longer dedicate the same amount of time to my hobby writing.

Specifically, things got hectic around the time the party reached Lessal. From there, I wrote each installment based on that day’s vibe and mood. The lack of time management was entirely my fault, and I sincerely apologize.

So what do you do when you don’t have time to plan out a story?

…Well, I decided to reuse the plot I had prepared for a shelved side-story: “Yury’s Route.” That’s why she ended up appearing here.

“Yury’s Route” was a side story that I’d developed fairly thoroughly, but it risked surpassing the main story in word count, so I ended up shelving it. I’d always hoped to revisit it as a standalone work someday—but this time, I decided to repurpose it here.

Now, about the delay in releasing the final chapter.

The night before I was supposed to post it, I went to my mentor and said:
“Master, so here’s the idea for the final chapter…”
“Scrap it.”
“….” brurururururu

Yup. Got rejected right at the last second.
That’s why the actual final chapter was written in a single day, and if there are any inconsistencies, I might quietly revise them later.

Speaking of my mentor, Namakura-sama, who always pushes me to maintain high standards—
Incredibly, and as many of you may already know, he recently reached #1 in the daily rankings.

As expected of my mentor. Now that my own series is finished, I’ll finally have time to enjoy reading his. I recommend checking out his work if you haven’t already.

Lastly, I know many of you are still facing inconveniences due to COVID.
Even so, I hope I can continue to write stories that bring you a little comfort, even if just a bit.
Going forward, I plan to focus mainly on short stories and post occasionally.
If you feel like it, I’d be honored if you dropped by from time to time.

Thank you again for reading. I hope we meet again someday—somewhere.
