Volume 4—Chapter 123: The Blind Idiot God
This world is false… it is just a story… a constructed reality meant to keep everything at bay.
I let my gaze drift across the space around us. The sky, the ground, even the air itself… all of it held together by a fragile balance, layered and rewritten over and over again.
Then my eyes returned to her.
“You really are irritating,” I said to the girl in front of me.
The holder of the Authority of Creation. Emilia Lorena.
She stood there with her arm raised, fingers trembling slightly as she forced her authority into place. Thin distortions spread from her hand, like invisible threads trying to stitch over what already existed.
“Ugh… damn it,” Emilia muttered, her breathing uneven.
The authority over creation is a fascinating power. It is considered the beginning. The point where everything starts.
You could even call it the Genesis.
Around her, fragments of rewritten space flickered. Sections of reality tried to overwrite mine, only to collapse and rebuild again in an unstable loop.
The scary part is simple.
She can overwrite my authority.
Unfortunately for her…
“You still treat authority as magic…” I said, watching closely.
Her jaw tightened. The pressure between our authorities became visible now, like two layers grinding against each other. The air warped where they met, bending inward before snapping back.
Her power comes at a cost.
And entering this world, a world already wrapped in my influence, forced her to use it once already.
The backlash hasn’t left her.
A faint tremor ran through her arm. Her control slipped for a fraction of a second, and the structure she built cracked before she forced it back into place.
She could defeat me anytime, if she were in proper condition.
The same holds true for me.
I can subdue her anytime I want.
Especially with the fragment of time that remains from that girl.
“I guess this is the difference between the original holder and a successor,” I said, taking another step closer.
Of course, if that confuses you…
I am the original.
“Even after thousands of years, you’re still an amateur,” I said.
“Ugh… what nonsense are you talking about… successor… I am not a successor… I am the original,” Emilia snapped.
Her power surged again.
It didn’t last.
“Seems like you don’t understand what I meant…” I said.
I really just wanted a conversation.
I even gave her a chance to fight out of respect.
Yet… she didn’t appreciate it.
“Earlier, you called me Noesha, right…”
I reached out and pulled Caroline’s body closer. Her form moved easily under my hand.
I don’t want to do this.
But it’s my only option.
The only way to break that confidence of hers.
“Noesha, Aria… that’s not really my name. It’s just the name of the body I use,” I said.
Even if Caroline’s power is only a fragment of time manipulation…
It is more than enough.
The time that has flown sideways, stop.
“From the last time we met, I never really properly introduced myself to you… Emilia Lorena.”
I raised my hand slightly.
Then snapped my fingers.
The world shifted.
In an instant, I was behind her.
Her left hand was already moving, threads of creation forming at her fingertips.
I caught her wrist mid-motion.
The threads snapped apart the moment my grip closed.
She tried to pull back, but the movement halted halfway.
With my other hand, I reached up and took her chin, lifting it just enough to stop her from turning away.
“Mortal, lend thine ear and tremble, for I shall speak my name,” I said, my voice close to her.
The space around us reacted.
The air thickened. The light dimmed just slightly, as if something vast pressed against the surface of this constructed world.
“I am he whom the fearful dub the Blind Idiot God, the one who reigneth amidst the Nuclear Chaos of the deep.”
As the words left my mouth, the ground beneath us lost its certainty. The horizon wavered, distant shapes bending out of alignment for a brief moment.
Emilia’s body stiffened.
Her authority spread instinctively, trying to stabilise everything, trying to deny what was being spoken.
“Know me by the name that shatters the stars.”
Cracks formed along the edges of her constructed space. Thin at first, then spreading, like fractures in glass that refused to fully break.
“I am Azathoth.”
The moment I uttered my true name, everything disappeared.
The sky, the ground, the structure of that false world… all of it faded at once, as if it had never been there to begin with.
What remained was nothing.
An empty space.
Only the three of us stood within it.
Before the name left my lips, I had already shielded Caroline’s body. A thin layer of my authority wrapped around her, dulling the impact, keeping her from hearing it fully.
Emilia, on the other hand…
I let go.
Her body dropped slightly the moment my hand left her, her balance breaking for an instant. She didn’t fall, but she staggered, her breathing collapsing into short, uneven gasps.
She didn’t die.
The authority she holds protected her from that.
But even then, that body is still nothing more than a mortal frame. The youthful appearance she carries is only maintained by the Authority over time.
Hearing a true divine name…
It almost tore that body apart.
“Aza… thoth… agh!!”
Her voice broke as she tried to form the name.
Such audacity.
Even attempting to say it.
I watched her in silence as she clutched her head, her authority flaring instinctively to stabilise herself, to keep her form from collapsing under the strain.
“But… our father… the lord of darkness… is the one who gave that power to us… to you and me…” she forced out between breaths.
“This is why I said you are but a mere successor,” I replied, looking at her with clear contempt.
She stiffened, her eyes narrowing despite the pain.
“The authority over reality… I am not really the holder,” I said.
“What do you mean?” Emilia asked, her voice still unsteady.
“I am the authority itself,” I said. “The holder is this girl… Aria.”
I gestured lightly, as if pointing to something unseen.
“No… it is more correct to say I am Aria who awakened. So my dreaming self is Aria.”
“I don’t understand…” Emilia muttered.
“No matter,” I said. “I only want you to distinguish between two… no, three versions of me.”
I raised a finger slightly as I spoke.
“The me that is speaking to you now.”
“ The me you met in the past, the one you called Noesha.”
“And the one who has not awakened… the one who sleeps.”
My gaze remained fixed on her.
“Are you planning to trick me? You think I am stupid?” Emilia snapped, though her stance was still unstable.
“The one you have conflict with is not me… but Noesha,” I said. “And I can assure you, I do not follow her belief.”
“Why should I believe you?” she shot back.
“You don’t have to,” I replied. “You will believe me anyway.”
I took a small step closer.
“I want to make an oath with you.”
“Oath?” Emilia let out a weak breath. “You want to bind me with an oath?”
“No,” I said. “I want you to help me… help Aria. I cannot remain fully awake. I hope you accept.”
“Accept?” she scoffed, though the edge in her voice had dulled. “Like I have a choice. State it.”
“You’ve noticed it already,” I said. “This world… the world outside this barrier. It’s rotten. It’s barely holding itself together.”
“Your point?” Emilia asked.
“It’s happening because of me,” I said.
Her eyes narrowed.
“This world is rotten because of you?”
“No,” I replied calmly. “You already understand what I mean.”
I paused for a moment before continuing.
“The world has not collapsed because of me. But the problem is… I cannot fully awaken to hold it together.”
“I can’t fully wake.”
“Why…” Emilia asked, more quietly this time.
“You heard my name,” I said. “You’ve likely heard the story from him as well.”
“Him?” she asked.
“The lord of darkness,” I answered. “I’m sure he told you. My control over reality exists because reality itself is my dream.”
“Reality… a dream…” she repeated, her voice uncertain.
I looked at her.
“What happens to a dream… when the dreamer wakes?”
Her expression froze.
“Don’t tell me…” she whispered.
“I will wake from the dream,” I said. “And reality will cease to exist.”
The empty space around us remained still, as if reflecting that truth.
“The only reason I can remain awake right now is because of this barrier. If it disappears… the outside world will become like this place.”
Emilia said nothing.
She stood there, breathing slowly now, her mind working through everything she had just heard.
After a moment, she exhaled.
“I see… I understand now,” she said. “You’re using that girl to keep the outside world from collapsing.”
“I will make the oath,” she continued, lifting her head slightly. “But you have to tell me first what you want help with.”
“It’s simple,” I said.
I looked at her directly.
“Aria’s sister… my sister… Irana…”
A brief pause.
“She is the vessel of the world tree.”
