Notes on Arc 1’s Publishing and Stubbing

HiddenMaster: So it’s finally happened. Capitalism has struck. Gasp!

But seriously, this has been a long time coming. Kitsu and I always intended to get our original stuff published, and it’s been both a long and a short road in some ways.

Almost hard to believe I’ve only known Kitsu a bit over a year and been working with him a bit under that (he grabbed me for shenanigans aka writing collaboratively right quick). But it’s been a dream for both of us to see our work published, to have our stories recognized and, well, available to the world.

But, that does come with the addendum of stubbing Arc 1. I know that isn’t the most popular thing in the world, but we do have to make a living here as both of us are trying to make this work.

Kitsu: Indeed! The foxxo and the Eldritch Ninja of Words need to eat, and this was the only way we can eventually afford to give people a physical copy they can hold. Some books they can put on their shelves, and tell their friends and grandkids “Hey, once upon a time, I helped these authors afford food, and they actually followed through and became published authors like they promised me. Maybe if you do the same with your author friends, they’ll make it big one day…”

That shit would make me smile in my grave. To know I helped inspire a whole new generation of authors. It would be damn cool, and this is a step we need to make that happen.

We need to be published for our reach to expand, and obviously, this was the clearest choice for how to do so. And it cost us a lot to get this shit done. Which is why we need your help.

Every purchase, every dime spent on us, goes right back into making sure we can afford to pay our artists, our editors, our co-workers and making sure we don’t end up on the streets for that much longer.

Your commissions, your purchases, your donations make our community a stronger, better place for those that need the money to continue their passion, their dreams, and make the most of the life they have… All so that they can bring you something fun, fresh, and silly to brighten your days, and the days of many others, in these harsh times.

HiddenMaster: Indeed, but to get back to an earlier point…

I’m not a ninja! Just an invisible guy. Or something like that. I never really settled on a persona beyond ‘eyes peering out of the dark’ so like, less eldritch ninja and more dork with glasses who’s just kinda awkwardly standing there.

But yeah, everything Kitsu said is absolutely true. We do spend money on this to get art, and frankly we only get a fraction of the art we would like because it all cost money.

This is an important stepping stone in ensuring our words reach, well, beyond the small audiences they’ve had so far and, well, if even a few people buy the book and smile, I’ll be happy.

But we will be posting book two’s start. Tentative plan going forward? We will post book 2 as we write it, 1 public chapter for every 2 on Patreon, and once we get book 2 ready and polished, we’ll stub book two leaving the first three chapters. Rinse and repeat.

This way we can get things sold, and also share our progress with current and longtime readers. Plus, for just five bucks on my Patreon you can jump in and see the whole series.
