Trapped In Paradise

Volume 1 Chapter 63: A Tender Haven

“39.5 degrees. That counts as a high fever, right?”

“Let’s go to the clinic first. If that doesn’t work, we’ll have to go to the hospital.”

Ning Chu had already gotten out of bed and was sitting weakly in front of the computer. His nose twitched as he sniffed suspiciously. He looked at Wen Yang beside him, then leaned over, bringing his nose close to Wen Yang’s waist and carefully sniffing twice.

Wen Yang silently took two steps back.

That spot was a little too close to his lower abdomen. With those rosy, full lips suddenly coming so close, it was both awkward and suggestive.

“You smell like a fox!”

“...”

Ning Chu narrowed his eyes. Suddenly, he reached out and pinched a long strand of dark hair from the folds of Wen Yang’s clothes.

“You were only gone for five minutes!”

Judging by how energetic Ning Chu suddenly was, no one would have guessed he had a high fever.

Wen Yang shook his head helplessly. “I just happened to run into Lin Li.”

“Lin Li?! What does that shameless fox want this time?!”

Wasn’t the storyline involving Lin Li already over? By now, she should have become an ordinary background character with nothing to do with the plot!

And yet she still couldn’t let go of Wen Yang!

This was bad. If it were a plot-related event, Ning Chu could take the initiative and defend himself based on how the story was supposed to unfold. But if it involved an ordinary background character, all he could do was passively hope that Wen Yang had enough self-control.

He looked up, his big eyes glaring angrily at Wen Yang.

“Did you promise her anything?”

“No. I was in a hurry to get back.” Wen Yang shook his head, still looking somewhat shaken. “She drugged me before. Why would I agree to anything she asked?”

“If there were evidence, I’d have wanted to call the police.”

“Is that so?”

You actually believe Lin Li was plotting against you?

Just like those twins at the bar—you really thought they were just hired girls trying to trick you into buying expensive drinks?

Too innocent...

What a virgin.

Ning Chu finally relaxed. Then he immediately collapsed onto the desk, once again looking weak and powerless.

“I still don’t know what’s going on with Shaoqing.” What worried him most right now was Zhang Shaoqing, who had disappeared without a trace. For all he knew, that guy might be off doing something improper at this very moment.

“Stop worrying about him. He’s a grown man. What could possibly happen to him?”

“Don’t you get into trouble all the time?”

“I—I don’t, do I?” Wen Yang turned toward the corner to look for an umbrella, preparing to head out. “Where are all the umbrellas in our dorm? Why have they all disappeared?”

The umbrellas in their dorm always seemed to vanish for no reason. After searching for quite a while, he finally found a folding umbrella in Wang Jie’s drawer.

Holding the umbrella, he returned to Ning Chu.

“Come on. Let’s go to the clinic.”

“Mm.”

Ning Chu knew he urgently needed to recover. Otherwise, if he let Wen Yang act on his own while allowing the possibly-corrupted Zhang Shaoqing to run around doing whatever he wanted, then within a week, he might find himself caught between two men.

And with such a high fever, he might not even have the strength to run away when the time came.

Supporting himself against the desk, Ning Chu slowly stood up, his brows tightly furrowed. With every breath, he could feel scorching air passing beneath his nose. His head was spinning, and his entire body felt weak and limp.

He lowered his head and lightly shook it, barely managing to pull himself together before following behind Wen Yang.

But before they had even left the dormitory, Wen Yang turned around and looked at Ning Chu.

His lips were pale, his brows drawn together, and he looked as though a gust of wind could knock him over.

With his frail, delicate appearance, anyone would feel sorry for him.

“The umbrella.”

Wen Yang handed the folding umbrella to Ning Chu. Then, without hesitation, he turned his back to him and crouched down.

Ning Chu thought he was going to tie his shoelaces. Confused, he simply walked around him.

“Why are you walking around me?” Wen Yang asked, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. “Get on.”

“Huh?”

“I’ll carry you.”

Ning Chu’s pupils contracted. He quickly took two steps back and shook his head in refusal.

“No need. It’s not like I can’t walk.”

Even though the high fever had left his mind somewhat foggy, he wasn’t stupid.

Their friendship was already showing signs of capsizing. He had no intention of having any physical contact with Wen Yang!

“Stop arguing. Hurry up.”

“I can walk by myself.”

Ning Chu opened the dorm room door and glanced at the steady drizzle outside.

“Do we have any other umbrellas? Is this the only one?”

“Yeah. I couldn’t find the others. If I carry you, you can hold the umbrella over both of us.”

“So you’re just going to get rained on?”

He shook his head again, his body tilting to one side. He caught himself against the wall in time, but the discomfort from his high fever was growing increasingly intense.

Wen Yang frowned. Noticing how unwell Ning Chu was, he had no choice but to threaten him.

“Come here. I’ll carry you. Otherwise, I’ll just carry you bridal-style.”

“You wouldn’t want another man carrying you bridal-style around campus, would you? What if your classmates or friends saw?”

“...”

Ning Chu had no response to that.

The last time he had suffered from heatstroke, this guy had immediately scooped him up and carried him bridal-style without a second thought. This time, Wen Yang clearly seemed just as capable of doing the same thing.

Left with no choice, Ning Chu stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Wen Yang’s neck. After a moment of hesitation, he leaned his body against Wen Yang’s back.

His burning, soft body pressed lightly against him, causing Wen Yang’s breathing to stop for half a second.

Ning Chu's body didn’t feel any different from a girl’s body at all, did it?

Carefully, he slipped both hands beneath Ning Chu’s thighs and easily stood up.

Ning Chu was soft all over and surprisingly light. He carried a refreshing, feminine fragrance, and the two soft shapes pressing against his back were especially impossible to ignore.

They weren’t very noticeable normally, but at this moment, the sensation was unmistakably clear.

They definitely weren’t supposedly chest muscles. What kind of chest muscles were this soft?

Could Ning Chu really be a girl?

Ning Chu’s hot breath fell against his neck, instantly staining Wen Yang’s neck a deep red. Gradually, an awkward blush also appeared on Wen Yang’s face.

Afraid of being recognized by other students, Ning Chu buried his head against the side of Wen Yang’s neck and lowered his face.

It wasn’t as though he had never been carried on someone’s back before, but this time felt especially embarrassing.

Even the tips of his ears had turned completely red, though he wasn’t sure whether that was because of embarrassment or the high fever.

Fortunately, it was a holiday, and there were very few students in the dormitory. They didn’t run into anyone, even after leaving the building.

“Hold the umbrella properly.”

“Mm. Walk slowly...”

“Don’t worry.”

Ning Chu opened the umbrella and held it with one hand. Wen Yang stepped out from beneath the eaves, walking steadily and slowly, taking each step as carefully as possible so that Ning Chu wouldn’t feel too much jostling.

The rain had brought a rare touch of coolness to the summer heat. Realizing there was almost no chance of running into any classmates, Ning Chu lifted his head and rested his chin on Wen Yang’s shoulder.

He gazed through the pale curtain of rain beyond the umbrella, looking at the world shrouded in rainfall.

A reassuring presence seemed to radiate from Wen Yang, making Ning Chu unconsciously take a deep breath.

Even his feverish body seemed to feel a little better.

But he quickly realized his mistake. Pressing his lips together, he reminded himself that Wen Yang was the person he needed to be most wary of—not someone whose warmth and reassurance he should be enjoying.

Otherwise, he might lower his guard and practically hand himself over!

That was close. He had almost fallen into the protagonist's gentle embrace.

“You haven’t eaten breakfast or lunch yet, right? After we go to the campus clinic, shall we grab something to eat at the cafeteria?”

“Mm.”
