Trapped In Paradise

Volume 1 Chapter 67: It Was All Me

It had to be said, talking back to the academic advisor had felt pretty satisfying.

Especially since Ning Chu already had a bit of a prejudice against him.

Getting scolded afterward, however, wasn’t nearly as enjoyable...

“If you have a problem with me, then talk to me privately! But you said it in the group chat! In front of dozens of people!”

Han Jingye was so angry that he repeatedly slapped the desk.

“Have I been too nice to you? It’s only been one month since the semester started, and you’re already asking for disciplinary action?!”

The usually arrogant Zhang Shaoqing hung his head, his hands clasped behind his back. As the “main culprit,” he was being scolded so thoroughly that he didn’t even dare raise his head.

Meanwhile, Ning Chu and Wen Yang stood off to the side, casually exchanging looks behind Han Jingye’s back.

What was wrong with this advisor? It was a long holiday, yet he was still staying at the school instead of going home.

“And you, Ning Chu!”

Ning Chu immediately straightened up, suddenly alert, and looked at the advisor.

Seeing his somewhat pitiful, youthful, and pretty face, Han Jingye’s tone softened slightly.

“And what were you joining in for? You three are roommates. You should be learning from and helping each other. Instead, you learned how to stir things up?”

“I... I wasn’t really...”

Ning Chu guiltily looked away.

“Wen Yang!”

Seeing the advisor redirect his firepower, Ning Chu quietly breathed a sigh of relief. He turned his head, only to find Zhang Shaoqing secretly laughing.

What an annoying bastard!

After rolling his eyes at him, Ning Chu’s attention drifted toward Han Jingye’s desk.

He quickly scanned it, trying to find evidence that the advisor had violated professional ethics or broken the law. But obviously, nobody would leave that sort of evidence sitting openly on their desk.

The fact that Han Jingye had stayed at school during the long holiday instead of going home made Ning Chu suspicious. For all he knew, the man might already have picked out a target—or perhaps had even succeeded...

There wasn’t much information about Han Jingye in the original novel. Most of it was focused on erotic content. His storyline was more like a side story, and the only labels attached to him were “academic advisor” and “a beast in gentleman’s clothing.”

As for the female victim, she didn’t even have a name. All Ning Chu knew was that she was pretty and had a good figure.

“You three! Pick an activity and participate in it yourselves! Otherwise, all of you will get disciplinary action!”

Zhang Shaoqing, who had been secretly grinning just moments ago, immediately pulled a miserable face. Stubbornly, he turned his head away and ignored him.

Zhang Shaoqing came from a wealthy family. As long as he wasn’t expelled and could get his diploma, he didn’t particularly care.

But Ning Chu couldn’t afford to be so defiant. He desperately tried to think of some activity or competition he could participate in.

Honestly, he didn’t seem to have any particular talents.

The only thing he might actually be good at was writing erotic web novels.

The office fell silent.

Han Jingye wasn’t in any hurry. Sitting behind his desk, he picked up his thermos, took a sip of tea, and looked down at his phone.

“I’ll participate in the sports meet,” Wen Yang was the first to speak. “Maybe sign me up for the sprint?”

“Fine. I’ll put you down for that. What about you, Ning Chu?”

“I...”

Ning Chu scratched his head in frustration.

“I have no idea.”

“Then I’ll arrange something for you later. Zhang Shaoqing?”

Zhang Shaoqing stubbornly raised his chin.

“Not doing it!”

“...”

Han Jingye let out a long sigh. He clearly had no good way of dealing with such a troublesome student.

Finally, he waved his hand helplessly.

“Get out!”

“Tch~”

The three hurried out of the office. Ning Chu breathed a sigh of relief, but he was still somewhat worried.

“Shaoqing, he’s not really going to give you some kind of disciplinary punishment, is he? That stuff goes on your record.”

“He’s just an academic advisor. Does he really have the authority to punish me?”

Wen Yang explained from beside them, “Actually, he does. The student handbook we got at the beginning of the semester said that insulting an academic advisor can result in disciplinary action.”

Zhang Shaoqing froze. He suddenly looked noticeably nervous.

Turning back toward the office door, he muttered, “Is it too late to go back and apologize?”

“Don’t worry. Your family’s rich,” Ning Chu teased when he saw his sudden change in attitude. “Even if you get expelled, so what? You can just go home and inherit the family business.”

“No, my mom would break my legs if she found out.”

Ning Chu held back a laugh.

“Don’t you like excitement? Constantly dancing on the edge of getting your legs broken sounds pretty exciting too.”

“Damn it! You’re actually enjoying my misery now?!”

Ning Chu burst out laughing, and Wen Yang started laughing at the same time.

“Damn! You two are still laughing!”

“Ning Chu! Come back here for a moment!”

The smiles instantly disappeared from their faces.

Ning Chu’s expression stiffened. He turned around and saw Han Jingye standing in the doorway of the office, beckoning to him.

Oh no!

Don’t tell me the academic advisor has really set his sights on me?!

Could the unnamed female victim in the original story actually be me too?!

But with his level of academic performance, forget getting a scholarship—he probably couldn’t even guarantee that he wouldn’t skip class.

A little flustered, he instinctively cast a pleading look toward Wen Yang. Wen Yang misunderstood, thinking that the advisor intended to hold Ning Chu accountable again, and reassured him, “I’ll go with you.”

“Then I’ll head to the cafeteria and wait for you guys,” Zhang Shaoqing said.

Feeling uneasy, Ning Chu returned to the office. He pursed his lips, lowered his head, and timidly glanced up, observing Han Jingye from the corner of his eye.

Could it be?

Was he really filling the roles of two heroines all by himself?

Were all those unnamed heroines in the original novel actually him?!

“Don’t be nervous.” Han Jingye pointed to the chair across from his desk, indicating for Ning Chu to sit down. Then he looked up at Wen Yang. “By the way, have you finished handling the matter with the financial aid applications for students in need? There are still a few students whose documents haven’t been submitted. Remind them to hurry up. Everything needs to be sorted out after the holiday.”

“Yeah, I already reminded them.”

“I have something to discuss with Ning Chu. You can go back first.”

Ning Chu sat on only half the chair, his entire body tense. He looked up at Wen Yang in alarm, terrified that Wen Yang would actually obediently return to the dorm.

Wasn’t the original story supposed to involve using scholarships to threaten and entice people? Wasn’t the victim supposed to be a girl?

At the very least, wait until I’ve completely turned into a girl before making a move on me!

And wasn’t this a little too direct?!

Wen Yang could only give him a helpless smile.

“Alright. I’ll wait outside the door.”

“No, wait—”

Ning Chu watched helplessly as Wen Yang left. Still, hearing that Wen Yang would wait outside the office eased his nervousness somewhat.

Biting his lower lip, Ning Chu’s eyes began searching around for something he could use as a weapon. He swallowed to moisten his throat.

If anything happened, he’d have to scream as loudly as possible so Wen Yang could burst through the door in time.

“Ning Chu...” Han Jingye paused before asking, “You know that Wen Yang’s family circumstances aren’t very good, right?”

That opening caught Ning Chu completely off guard.

He stared blankly at Han Jingye and instinctively nodded.

“You seem to be pretty close to him. When you have the chance, try talking to him. The requirements for the school’s financial assistance program aren’t particularly strict.”

Ning Chu suddenly understood.

So that was what this was about!

The original novel had mentioned that the protagonist came from a relatively poor family and had to work part-time from time to time, which led to quite a few encounters and romantic adventures.

But Ning Chu hadn’t expected Wen Yang’s circumstances to be difficult enough that he could actually apply for financial assistance.

He agreed without hesitation.

“Alright!”

Han Jingye’s expression became somewhat hesitant. That brief pause immediately made Ning Chu nervous again.

“Do you have some kind of prejudice against me?”

Ning Chu froze for a moment, then hurriedly shook his head.

“Every time you see me, you look like you’ve just run into some kind of criminal.” Han Jingye smiled and shook his head. “The way you look at me is a little strange. I’ve noticed.”

“No, no!”

This academic advisor...

He actually seemed like a pretty decent person.

He genuinely cared about his students.

Ning Chu muttered to himself inwardly. Then a thought occurred to him. He secretly glanced at Han Jingye’s expression and cautiously asked,

“Sir, why didn’t you go home during the National Day holiday?”

“Me? I live in the faculty dormitory. If I go home, my family will just nag me about getting married. I’d rather not.”

That was a perfectly reasonable explanation too...
