V3: Chapter 66: A Child Lacking Love

"Isn't hugging you this tight enough?"

Liang Lin hugged her tighter, feeling like she couldn't breathe. But Liang Di, in her arms, seemed oblivious to the difficulty breathing and the pain, clinging back tightly.

"Okay, Liang Di, don't hug so tight. If you hug any tighter, I won't be able to breathe and I'll die."

Liang Lin made what she thought were funny jokes, but in reality, the jokes were rather cold.

Liang Di didn't speak, but her grip loosened slightly.

"Sister Liang Lin, I'm so cold, I'm really so cold."

She murmured words Liang Lin couldn't understand.

Liang Lin hugged her tighter again. Although she couldn't breathe, she still didn't want Liang Di to be sad or unhappy.

"I'm hugging you tighter now. Are you still cold? Can the warmth of my skin warm you up?"

Liang Lin was trying her best to think of things that would make her happy.

“No, Sister Liang Lin…”

Tears streamed down Liang Di’s face.

“It’s so cold inside, my heart is so cold, so very cold.”

Sigh.

It really is because of that matter.

Even though she acts so carefree during the day, at night she still turns into a sentimental little girl.

Liang Lin sighed.

But, that’s true. Liang Di seems mature and decisive, but in reality, she’s still a little girl who hasn’t grown up. Liang Di isn’t even twenty-five yet, and even though she’s a mother of two, she hasn’t grown up.

“Okay, stop crying.”

Feeling the warmth and dampness on her neck, Liang Lin pulled out a hand and gently wiped away the tears on Liang Di’s face. The tears were wet and stuck to Liang Lin’s hand.

“Really, if you keep crying, you’ll look like a little kitten. Don’t cry.”

To be honest, Liang Lin really, really hates women crying. It makes her feel so pretentious. But seeing the girl she liked crying, Liang Lin felt her heart melt. She didn't feel annoyed, nor did she think the other was being dramatic.

This is what it's like to be with the person you love…

“Didn’t we pinky swear? We promised that if I died, you’d come with me, we’d tear it apart together, we’d die together, wouldn’t that be romantic?”

Liang Lin had said this countless times, and Liang Di had heard it countless times, but Liang Di still wanted to hear it a few more times, to reassure herself.

“Okay, sure…”

Liang Di buried her face in the other's chest.

“Sister Liang Lin, how long are you and Laura going to be underwater? I’ll go down with you. If we can’t let Octaville go down, I’ll go with you. That way, even if we die together, our bodies will be piled up together. That’s a true double suicide.”

That’s a good idea, but…

“Liang Di, Octaville is the most powerful magician right now. If she doesn’t come with me, there are some things Laura and I can’t accomplish on our own, like holding off underwater monsters. I don’t know if that will happen, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.”

Liang Di stubbornly persisted.

“But I’m strong too. Although I don’t have Octaville’s magic power or know as many spells, don’t forget, my real form is tentacled. I know more than just magic; there are other things too. Although I can’t compare to Octaville, and I’m not as strong, I can still handle ordinary monsters with ease.”

Liang Lin lowered her head, staring into the other’s eyes, seeing unwavering determination.

Seeing that look in her eyes, Liang Lin understood that no matter how she tried to persuade Liang Di, or how she explained the pros and cons, Liang Di wouldn't listen. She'd have to have Laura, Octaville, and Hilary talk to her tomorrow and try to reason with her again.

Liang Di was truly something else. She was so calm, composed, and rational when facing other matters, but how come she became impulsive and emotional when it came to her loved one?

Sigh, that was probably Liang Di's only weakness.

"I can't make these decisions either, you know that," Liang Lin said, gently rubbing Liang Di's chubby cheek.

"Tomorrow, go ask Octaville and Laura. The specifics… well, it's up to them to decide."

This was a concession, and Liang Di didn't dare push her luck any further. She gave a somewhat natural smile, leaned over, and kissed Liang Di on the cheek.

Smack~

"Okay~ Sister Liang Lin, don't worry, I'll definitely persuade them to let me go with you."

How could she possibly persuade them? With Octavielle's personality, she'd definitely have to do it herself.

Liang Lin didn't want Liang Di to go either.

Although she said she wanted Liang Di to die with her, that was just what Liang Di wanted to hear.

What Liang Lin truly wanted was for Liang Di to live well after her death, to live well in this world, to feel the warmth of this world, to live on with her share, to live on forever.

Besides, Carol is only six years old this year, and Philomena isn't even a year old yet; they can't live without their mother.

If she really died, those two little ones would have already lost one mother; they couldn't lose a second one, because then there would be no love in their world.

People can't live in this world without love.

Liang Lin had never understood this before, but Liang Di always said, "Without Sister Liang Lin's love, I can't live in this world." Back then, Liang Lin truly didn't understand, even thinking the other person was stupid and foolish.

But now, she seemed to understand.

Although Liang Di's excessive obsession and controlling nature led her to say such things, at its core, she was just a child starved of love, unable to love herself, and unsure how to love herself.

Therefore, she poured all her love and affection into someone else, treating that person as her savior, hoping that person would reciprocate the same love and save her.

What a pity…

Liang Lin gently ruffled the head of the tentacle-like girl in her arms.

"What a pity, Liang Di. I've figured some things out, but it's too late. If I were who I am now, perhaps we wouldn't have had so many complicated situations."

Liang Di was confused.

"Huh? Sister Liang Lin, what are you talking about? I don't understand."

"Nothing."

Liang Lin lowered her head and gently kissed Liang Di's eyebrow above her eyes.
