V3: Chapter 84: I Want to Be a Hero
Tears streamed down her face, seemingly endless.
Liang Lin endured the pain, widening her eyes further and further, refusing to close them.
She absolutely couldn't close her eyes; that was her only thought.
Her face was already covered in tears. She wiped them haphazardly, stubbornly staring ahead, her gaze still unwavering. However, the whites of her eyes were bloodshot, swollen and swollen, as if the blood vessels would burst at any moment, turning her whites of her eyes bloodshot.
Tears dripped down, tracing paths down Liang Lin's cheeks, her chin, and her neck. But Liang Lin still didn't close her eyes.
Finally, the light gradually faded—no, to be precise, it became softer, less glaring than before. If at first it felt like staring directly at the sun, now it was like the gentlest sunlight falling on Liang Lin's cheeks.
Liang Lin finally relaxed, her body going limp. Gradually, she regained consciousness and touch, and finally sensed the presence of someone beside her.
Because she had been staring for so long, her vision was blurry, like an old-fashioned television, creaking and groaning. She blinked hard twice, looking beside her, and finally saw clearly…
Where was Laura?!
Beside her, a sticky tentacle had appeared.
Liang Lin quickly fell backward, creating distance between herself and the tentacle, and drew her longsword from her waist.
"Laura!!"
She screamed, looking around, but couldn't see Laura.
"Laura, where are you? Are you in danger?! Where are you now? Tell me, can you hear me?!"
"Laura!"
"Laura!"
Liang Lin shouted several times, but unfortunately, there was no response.
For a moment, Liang Lin felt a slight sense of collapse.
If Laura was missing, or had suffered some serious injury and died before reaching the finish line, then her mission would be a complete failure. She and Octaville had protected Laura so well along the way, so how could Laura disappear just as they were nearing the end?
Was it because she wasn't good enough? Everything had gone so smoothly when Octaville was there…
Liang Lin began to doubt herself.
Given the current situation, having such feelings was extremely bad.
Looking at the tentacles ahead…
These tentacles didn't seem to intend to attack Liang Lin. They simply stood still, motionless, without making a sound or retreating, just quietly standing in the water.
Liang Lin couldn't see the tentacle's eyes.
This tentacle resembled a giant tumor, a fleshy mass with only a few short tentacles. It seemed to be a juvenile tentacle, not an adult one.
Although it wasn't aggressive, it was still a very malevolent thing.
Liang Lin didn't think much of it, her face expressionless, she approached step by step, longsword in hand.
Her only thought was to quickly deal with this tentacle and then find Laura.
She can't lose Laura; I have to find her.
Thinking this, Liang Lin raised her sword.
The tentacle seemed to freeze in place, neither running nor dodging, only wriggling its fleshy body.
"Do you really think what I was thinking just now?"
Liang Lin suddenly laughed.
Whoosh!
A flash of cold light, and Liang Lin turned around, cleaving the light behind her.
Crash!
Something shattered, like glass.
Liang Lin turned back around; the tentacle behind her had transformed back into Laura's appearance.
“I’m not that stupid. It didn’t attack, It wasn’t aggressive. Standing there like an idiot, waiting for me to see what happened, It didn’t even know how to run away.”
Liang Lin laughed and patted Laura’s head.
“Only an idiot like you would be so scared you’d freeze in place. I even wondered if you’d fainted. Seriously, after all these years, you haven’t improved at all.”
Laura’s face turned pale. She genuinely thought she was going to die. She thought Liang Lin was really going to bring that sword down on her head.
“I may have been reckless, but I’m not stupid.”
Liang Lin took Laura’s arm.
“We can keep going. We don’t know what we’ll encounter next, but don’t worry, I’ll still protect you and everyone else just like I do now.”
Ah…
Laura watched Liang Lin’s retreating figure.
"Miss Liang Lin is as brave and kind as ever."
In a daze, Laura recalled the first time she saw Liang Lin. Back then, she too had appeared out of nowhere, rescuing all the girls from the basement.
How wonderful.
Miss Liang Lin is still Miss Liang Lin; her beliefs, her personality, had never been changed by any setback.
Ah… what kind of admiration is this?
Laura didn't know.
But what Laura did know was that even someone as timid as herself had become brave after meeting Miss Liang Lin, wanting to protect others, wanting to save others.
That's good. Isn't that progress? Life, after all, needs some meaning.
Laura had asked Liang Lin before, "Miss Liang Lin, what kind of life do you want?"
Liang Lin didn't hesitate at the time, "The life I want? I want everyone to live a happy life. If possible, I also want to live happily. But if someone has to make a sacrifice, then that person will definitely be me."
"Why?"
"Hmm..."
After hearing this question, Liang Lin hesitated for a moment.
"Maybe, I want to be a hero."
"If death is the price of becoming a hero, then I'm willing."
"If everyone has to die in the end, then dying a glorious death, and being remembered by everyone, is better than growing old in ordinariness, and being forgotten by everyone."
That was Liang Lin's thought.
"Then, if I make a sacrifice for everyone, everyone will see me as a hero, and they will no longer call me a coward."
Laura murmured softly.
"What are you saying? Muttering to yourself?"
Liang Lin suddenly turned around.
Laura immediately shook her head, then gave a relaxed smile. "It's nothing, I'm just cheering myself on. We're almost at the finish line, almost it'll all be over. I'm happy, so incredibly happy."
"Haha~"
Hearing this, Liang Lin laughed too.
