V3: Chapter 87: The Wicked Lady's Choice
"Okay."
"Very good."
The so-called Laura smiled, pointing to the longsword at Liang Lin's waist.
"Then, kill me. Pierce my chest with this sword, pin me to that keyhole, let my blood soak it."
Laura had only mentioned needing to be pierced before, but never specifically mentioning piercing her chest.
This time, Liang Lin didn't hesitate. Her intuition told her this was the right choice.
"Hoo."
Liang Lin raised the longsword.
Laura silently turned away, holding the key, and closed her eyes.
"Do it, don't hesitate any longer."
"There's a fifty percent chance of successfully sealing it. Five percent chance that Laura won't die. And you, Liang Lin, you're luckier than Laura; you have ten percent chance of not dying."
Ten percent?
That's still a glimmer of hope!
There was a chance to live, a chance to see her sister again, a chance to see her daughters again, a chance to see her beloved Liang Di…
Thinking of this, Liang Lin gritted her teeth, her eyes hardening.
“Pfft.”
The longsword pierced Laura’s chest.
Blood flowed down Laura’s chest, dripping drop by drop.
This time, Laura didn’t cry, didn’t scream, didn’t faint; she simply smiled, sinking rapidly downwards with Liang Lin.
Water washed away the sweat from Liang Lin’s forehead.
“Pfft!”
The key, mixed with Laura’s blood, pierced the lock. Laura pressed herself against the center of the enormous eye, while Liang Lin leaned against her back.
Rumble!
Suddenly, a series of deafening roars echoed around them. Liang Lin felt as if the entire ocean was about to collapse. Sand and soil swirled in the air, the eye seeming to howl in agony, as if uprooting everything around it.
Liang Lin felt the small stones around her scratching her skin. She didn't know how Laura was doing; she had already been pierced through, and she absolutely couldn't let her suffer any further harm.
Laura… was also a life; she couldn't sacrifice her lightly unless absolutely necessary.
Thinking this, Liang Lin tightly protected Laura.
When she pierced Laura's body, she had carefully chosen the spot, deliberately avoiding the heart and other organs.
She didn't know if Laura would survive…
She… had truly tried her best.
Liang Lin suddenly felt tired. She longed to return to Langwendi's residence, to be in Liang Di's arms, to be held by Liang Di, with children chattering and playing around them, her sister and sister-in-law holding their child, smiling as they watched. Or perhaps she was holding Liang Di, or perhaps they were leaning against each other… anything was fine… as long as she could be with her family… she would be happy.
She longed to go home…
Liang Lin felt drowsy. She wanted to close her eyes, but reason told her she couldn't. If she fell asleep, it would be too late; she would never be able to escape.
“Liang Di…”
Liang Lin called Liang Di's name.
“Sister…”
“Carol…”
“Philomena…”
“Octaville…”
Liang Lin silently repeated her family members' names. Only in this way could she stay awake and not fall into a deep sleep.
The world around her became increasingly distorted, like a disc, everything radiating a blinding light.
Liang Lin felt her soul being ripped away. She pressed herself tightly against Laura.
“Laura, don’t sleep. If you fall asleep, you’ll never wake up again.”
“I’ll take you out… You… are like my subordinates, my… family, and my good brothers.”
Liang Lin didn’t know what she was muttering. She was somewhat dazed, her eyes wide open, still murmuring the names of her family, her wishes for them, and her longing. She had to keep saying it; only then could she have faith, only then could she finally leave this hellish place.
“Ha~”
“Ha~”
She was increasingly breathless. Her remaining eyeballs seemed to be spinning violently, the vortex swirling and turning, still trying to swallow Liang Lin and Laura into its eyeballs.
“This is really troublesome…”
Liang Lin gripped Laura tightly.
Laura was already fixed to the keyhole; she definitely wouldn’t fall. But Liang Lin was a little scared.
What if this monster’s tentacles reached out, wrapped Laura up, and then cut her in two?
The monster Octaville always talked about… had tentacles, so what about this one? Why doesn't it have tentacles? Is it fake?
Soon, Liang Lin's guess came true.
The slimy tentacles emerged from the ground, rushing straight towards Laura.
Liang Lin reacted quickly, raising her arm to block them, but a purplish-blue mark was left on her arm.
"Hiss~"
Liang Lin shook her hand, looking at the longsword stuck in Laura's chest. She was most comfortable with longswords, but now she couldn't.
So, Liang Lin pulled a gleaming gold dagger from her sleeve. Unlike the previous longsword, this one was extremely ornate, inlaid with diamonds, exuding an aristocratic air.
This dagger was also imbued with magic, slowing down the tentacle monster's regrowth.
"Stop disgusting me, you ugly thing!"
Liang Lin was truly desperate. She was so sleepy, trying so hard to stay awake, and then another tentacle appeared to interfere.
Instantly, all her sleepiness vanished, and sheraised the small knife high.
But could the knife really handle the tentacle?
The answer was: Yes.
The enchanted knife severed tentacle after tentacle, leaving the tentacle itself covered in wounds.
"Huff."
"Huff."
Liang Lin began to lose her balance, swaying and nearly falling. She was so incredibly sleepy, she just wanted to close her eyes. She was forcing herself to stay awake; she had little chance against this tentacle battle. She could only try to stall for time, hoping that the key she had found would finally seal the tentacle monster in the sea.
"Huff..."
Please, let this end soon. I want to go home.
Liang Lin's left eye was glued shut, making it impossible for her to open it. She could only squint with one eye as she continued to fight the tentacles.
"No..."
"I absolutely can't give up..."
Her body was covered in scars, but Liang Lin, though unsteady, steadied herself and stared resolutely at the tentacle, as if determined to stop it, as if determined to kill it.
The tentacle stopped moving in mid-air.
What... happened?
It wasn't that the tentacles stopped attacking them, but that the world around them froze.
"WhaTEveR yOu WAnt... I caN GivE you, wHEther it's WEalTh, loVE, or even YOur deCEased FAMily, as lonG As yOu'Re wiLLing, I can GiVe you anYTHing..."
