V3: Chapter 86: Still a Twisted Justice

Liang Lin sighed and crouched down.

While she still couldn't fully empathize with others, she could understand them a little better. She knew many people didn't possess her strength and resilience; they were weak, afraid, and fearful. Laura was one of those people.

So, Liang Lin silently ruffled Laura's hair.

"It's almost over. I told you, I'll protect you. Don't worry, you'll be fine. If anything happens to you, Gladys will be devastated at home. For Gladys's sake, you have to be strong."

Goodness, even now, Liang Lin still suspected Gladys and Laura were having an affair.

Upon hearing the name "Gladys," Laura paused for a moment, then blushed inexplicably.

She remembered that before leaving, Gladys had kissed her on the cheek. Sweet and soft, the kiss had made Laura almost lose her senses.

Gladys, her eyes brimming with tears, said, "Laura, you absolutely have to come back... I'm so scared if no one sleeps with me."

Her words sounded incredibly ambiguous.

Laura realized she was having strange feelings for Gladys, but in her rush to get there, she hadn't said anything. As time went on, spending so much time together, feelings inevitably developed, and this was true for Gladys and Laura as well.

Ah... right, I haven't even figured out the meaning of Gladys's kiss yet. Now I have to get back safely... otherwise, I won't even know... if anyone liked me.

Laura took a deep breath, stopped crying, and sat up.

"Miss Liang Lin, could you please carry me to that eye?"

Liang Lin carried Laura. Once they reached the eye, Liang Lin placed Laura on the ground.

Laura stood on one leg, calmly gazing at the sapphire blue eye.

"Everything... should end now."

This kind of demeanor didn't seem like something Laura would normally exude.

Liang Lin was in a daze for a moment, feeling that the person inside Laura's body wasn't Laura herself, but rather the one who had been sending Laura messages through dreams.

"Can I have the key?"

Laura reached out her hand to Liang Lin.

Liang Lin hesitated, her hand covering her waist where the key was hidden.

She still wasn't quite sure if the Laura in front of her was the real Laura.

The illusions and disguises along the way had been far too numerous, so much so that Liang Lin was beginning to feel disoriented, unable to distinguish between illusion and reality. She didn't know which was real and which was fake, and could only rely on reason and intuition to discern. One wrong judgment would mean certain death.

"Don't you believe me?"

Laura moved closer to Liang Lin.

Liang Lin was now certain that the person inside Laura's body was definitely not Laura.

"Yes, I don't believe you," Liang Lin said calmly.

“…You can stand beside me. If you see anything wrong with me, you can just take back the key and kill me.” Laura paused. “Besides, you lied when you were talking to that monster, didn’t you?”

“Laura clearly told you how to seal the monster and the method. Because you are the most important link, how could she not tell you? You were just pretending, testing whether Laura was being genuine.”

“So, you know the whole process. If you see anything wrong with me, or if I don’t follow the procedure, you can kill me immediately.”

She even knows this?

Liang Lin gradually calmed down, and her mind cleared considerably.

“Okay…”

They can’t just stay here forever. If something happens, they have to adapt. If anyone tries to stop them, they’ll fight to the death. Today, they must use the key on this monster, they must seal the sleeping “god” at the bottom of the sea.

“Here.”

Liang Lin took out the key and handed it to Laura.

“We can begin. I’m ready.”

Laura took the key from Liang Lin. Looking at the sapphire blue eye, she murmured softly,

“It’s time… for this to end… temporarily.”

A temporary end?

That’s not bad.

At least it’s better than this world always being in chaos.

After saying this, Laura suddenly leaped upwards.

In water, one can float. Laura slowly floated upwards, swimming forward, finally stopping at the center of the eye. She looked down at the eye; the vortex within it was slowly twisting, seemingly trying to suck Laura in.

Seeing this, Liang Lin was a little worried. She followed and stood beside Laura.

Laura raised her hand, holding the key.

“See the lock in the center of that eye?” Laura pointed to the eye below.

If Laura hadn’t pointed, Liang Lin wouldn’t have noticed.

She lowered her head and looked at the eye.

Sure enough, right in the center of her eye, at the vortex, was a tiny keyhole. It was so small, easily overlooked.

“I saw it,” Liang Lin replied.

“You must pierce my body with a sword.”

Upon hearing this, Liang Lin was completely stunned.

“Huh?”

Her eyes widened. “You didn’t tell me… Laura didn’t tell me about this step. You… I know you’re not Laura. I thought you were the one who had been helping us all along. It seems…”

“No, you guessed right, I am that one.”

The so-called Laura sighed.

“If I had told Laura that she had to be pierced by the sword, stuck in that keyhole, would she have been willing to come? Would she have been willing to give her body to me, to let me solve this problem? I had to lie.”

“You think that if you and Laura died, but the world could live peacefully for decades, even a hundred years, would you be willing to make that exchange?”

“I would.”

Liang Lin uttered those three words almost without hesitation.

“Not everyone has your level of awareness. Laura's personality is too weak; she's afraid of death. So, this is the only way I can go.”

“Liang Lin, what are your thoughts now? Don't hesitate any longer.”

“I... If what you're saying is true, then I'm willing to sacrifice myself and Laura. Whether Laura knows or not, whether she cares or not, this is for everyone. I've made my decision. Even if you ask me to kill her completely, I'm willing.”

“So that more people can live well, I'm willing to do anything, including giving up my own life, my friends' lives, my family's lives, and the lives of those I love.”

Liang Lin's words revealed a twisted sense of justice.
