V3: Chapter 79: I Must Win!
Just that one sentence sent a chill down Liang Lin's spine, making her afraid to go any further.
Yes, there's no light underwater, so why is that hole in front of me emitting such a bright light?
It's fake, it must all be fake!
Liang Lin took a step back.
Her mind became chaotic once again, fragments of memories, some hers, some not, surfacing one after another.
Which fragment was her memory, and which wasn't? Why were her memories all so confused? Who was she? What was her name? Where did she come from? Who were her family members? Which was real? Which was fake?
Liang Lin felt waves of pain in her head. She desperately wanted to crouch down, hug her head, and rub it vigorously.
But she couldn't. If she closed her eyes, her vision would go dark, and darkness meant she would be in danger.
Liang Lin forced herself to stay upright, her eyes widening again.
"Since I can cut you once, I can cut you a second time!"
Liang Lin raised her longsword again.
She held it high, over her head.
Only this way could she unleash her full power when she stabbed down.
With this swing, Liang Lin put all her strength into it.
"I don't care who I am! I don't care what I've forgotten! All I know is that I can't die now! I absolutely cannot die now! My mission isn't finished yet, what is it? What the mission is doesn't matter anymore... Live! As long as I live, I'll know who I am! What my mission is! Where is my family!"
Liang Lin roared hoarsely.
Sure enough, it wasn't a way out at all; it was tentacles, glowing tentacles!
One glowing tentacle after another suddenly shot out from the darkness, rapidly attacking Liang Lin. These tentacles shimmered with an eerie light, their surfaces covered in unknown patterns, radiating a chilling aura.
Liang Lin instantly retreated, her longsword arcing through the air as she slashed at one of the tentacles.
However, these tentacles, like the previous black tentacles, possessed extraordinary speed and agility, easily dodging her attack. They twisted and coiled in the air, launching another fierce assault on Liang Lin.
“Heh heh ... haaaa!" Liang Lin roared.
Her figure moved swiftly in the darkness, her longsword flashing, the sword light weaving together to form an impenetrable net.
The tentacles crashed into the net, producing crisp metallic clangs and sparks flying. However, these tentacles seemed endless, constantly emerging from the darkness, attempting to break through Liang Lin's defenses.
She had already expended much of her energy, and now, facing such troublesome tentacles, fine beads of sweat began to appear on Liang Lin's forehead. She knew she couldn't continue on this passive defense indefinitely.
So, she took a deep breath. A power surged within her.
She lunged forward, her longsword flying from her hand, transforming into a dazzling sword beam, piercing straight towards the core of the tentacle.
Whoosh!
The sword flashed like lightning, instantly piercing a tentacle and severing it in two.
However, just like before, this tentacle regenerated rapidly after being severed, returning to its original state even faster than the previous tentacles, almost instantly. Liang Lin felt a sense of dejection; she realized these tentacles possessed a strange and powerful regenerative ability.
If only she could do magic.
Unfortunately, she couldn't.
Of course, that was a good thing, though she couldn't remember why.
Liang Lin was numb. Her longsword danced rapidly in the air, each strike accompanied by flashes of light, the sword light like a dragon, its momentum overwhelming.
Whether it was an illusion or something truly effective, the tentacles became more ferocious, their attacks more frequent and violent.
However, Liang Lin seemed tireless, continuing to slash. Her figure was light and agile, her longsword unstoppable.
The sword flashed like lightning, severing the tentacles one by one. Yet, they seemed tireless, continuously emerging from the darkness.
Liang Lin knew this couldn't continue. She had to find the core of the tentacles and destroy it completely.
However, she was most likely in an illusion. But how she had escaped the illusion before was completely forgotten.
Perhaps, defeating the tentacles before her would be the key to escape.
Liang Lin began to carefully observe the tentacles' attack patterns, trying to find their weakness.
Finally, in a fierce exchange, she discovered a brief pause in the tentacles' attacks. This pause, though insignificant, was a fatal flaw for Liang Lin.
"Found it..."
The longsword drew a perfect arc in the air, thrusting straight towards the core of the tentacles.
This time, she didn't hesitate. The longsword pierced through the core of the tentacles like lightning, completely destroying them.
Success?
A smile just appeared on Liang Lin's lips.
Just when Liang Lin thought the battle was about to end, she discovered that things weren't so simple.
Although the tentacles were destroyed, their energy hadn't dissipated; instead, it coalesced into a powerful energy wave that surged towards Liang Lin.
"Not good!"
Liang Lin sensed something was wrong. She quickly mustered all her strength, raising her longsword in front of her to try and block the energy surge.
However, the energy surge was exceptionally powerful, and her defenses crumbled instantly.
Liang Lin felt a powerful force throw her away; she tumbled several times in the air before barely regaining her balance. Upon landing, she felt her blood churning, a sharp pain shooting through her chest, and then she coughed up a mouthful of blood.
She endured the pain, stood up again, and stared resolutely at the energy surge formed by the converging tentacles.
This was the final battle; she had to give it her all.
Liang Lin took a deep breath, gripped her longsword tightly, and once again mustered all her strength.
The longsword drew a dazzling arc in the air as it slashed towards the energy surge.
Boom!
A deafening roar shook the entire space enveloped by the black tentacles.
The energy fluctuations gradually dissipated under the impact of the longsword, and the tentacles vanished completely.
Liang Lin stood there, panting heavily. Her clothes were soaked with sweat, but her eyes remained as resolute as ever.
Is it... over?
That suspicious, flickering light was gone, replaced by darkness once more. But the sticky, fleshy sensation was gone; it seemed... there were ripples of water.
