V3: Chapter 80: The Reef on the Seabed

Out of there!

Liang Lin crawled out of the hole.

As soon as she emerged, she saw Octaville, her waist still bent, and Laura, unconscious.

Ah, Laura's current state…

"Did I just pass out?" Liang Lin asked Octaville.

Octaville nodded. "You two both passed out at the same time. I was momentarily disoriented too, but only for a few seconds. I regained my senses. This is all too common for me, so I can get out of it quickly."

Liang Lin nodded slightly, then pointed to Laura.

"What about this girl? She's unconscious now, isn't she in danger?"

Her face looked unwell; her lips were pale, and her condition wasn't optimistic.

“She used to be protected by white wings when she was in danger, you know, the so-called gods,” Octaville frowned. “But this time it’s strange. You were probably unconscious… for about seven minutes, and Laura’s been unconscious for about the same amount of time, but those white wings haven’t appeared yet.”

“Hiss~”

Liang Lin gasped. She couldn’t help but think back to the question that had been raised earlier—“Can you really completely trust dreams, and the person in your dreams?”

The answer was, of course, uncertain. But Laura stubbornly insisted on believing in the person in her dreams. Now, she was in danger, and that person was gone.

“If we think about it in a not-too-bad way, could it be that after we entered the ocean, that so-called god couldn’t protect Laura anymore? This is the territory of other creatures; He… can’t get in?” Liang Lin’s mind raced, and she uttered these thoughts.

She wasn’t just all brawn and no brains; this analysis was actually quite reasonable.

“Hmm.”

Octaville nodded in agreement.

“Actually, I had the same thought, after you two both fell unconscious. But, thoughts are thoughts, there’s nothing we can do right now. We can’t enter Laura’s illusion; we can only wait for Laura to wake up on her own.”

Without the protection of the white wings, it would be too dangerous for Laura to be alone in the illusion. She’s timid, and her will doesn’t seem particularly strong. Could she really escape that illusion?

Time ticked by, and Octaville and Liang Lin grew increasingly uneasy. They stared intently at Laura, while also observing their surroundings, fearing they might encounter some terrifying tentacles.

Ten minutes.

Twenty minutes.

Half an hour passed.

Laura still hadn’t woken up, her eyes still closed, trapped in the illusion, unable to break free.

Liang Lin and Octaville’s bad premonition grew stronger.

“Octaville, is there really no way to enter Laura's illusion? Waiting like this isn't a solution, is it? What if she doesn't wake up? How much longer do we have to wait?”

Octaville frowned. “I'm trying to think of something, but… but I really can't think of anything…”

Just as the two were at their wits' end, Laura's body suddenly convulsed violently.

Octaville and Liang Lin's attention was immediately drawn, and they stopped their discussion.

“Laura!”

Liang Lin grabbed Laura's arm and shook it forcefully.

She remembered that when she was trapped in the illusion before, Liang Di had called her name repeatedly in this way, shaking her body forcefully and calling her name. Back then, in the illusion, she heard her name, and her consciousness cleared somewhat. She wondered if this method would work for Laura now.

"Laura!"

"Laura!"

Octaville called Laura's name along with Liang Lin.

Laura's body twitched twice more.

After about a dozen twitches, Laura finally opened her eyes again.

"Ah..."

As if finally breathing again, Laura woke up, her face pale.

"I... I didn't die?"

It's unclear what she saw in the illusion, but the first thing Laura said after waking up was this.

"You didn't die, don't worry, we didn't die either."

Liang Lin and Octaville also breathed a sigh of relief, smiles appearing on their faces.

"I... why... why don't I have wings this time?"

Laura asked this question.

She actually asked them this question.

Octaville and Liang Lin exchanged a glance.

“We were about to ask you the same question. If it were before, those white wings would have appeared long ago in this kind of danger. But now, you've been unconscious for a full forty minutes.”

“Right, didn’t that god appear?”

Liang Lin and Octaville bombarded Laura with questions.

Laura looked slightly confused and shook her head.

“No, he didn’t appear.”

“Then, what did you encounter in the illusion? You don’t look too well. Did you experience some terrifying memories?”

Laura shook her head again.

“No terrifying memories… In my illusion, I was being chased by monsters. Thankfully, I didn’t faint. I was just constantly running, constantly swimming, aimlessly swimming. It was all darkness ahead, and I didn’t know where to go. Like a headless fly, I just kept swimming forward.”

She described the illusion she had just experienced.

“I don’t know how long I’ve been running, but I only know that when I was about to collapse from exhaustion, a light appeared before my eyes. That sunlight was so bright, like the rising sun over the sea.”

Laura paused here.

“But I’m confused, where does the sun come from in the sea?”

“Could it be that I was about to escape the water and swim to shore?”

“But I haven’t been running for that long, have I? I remember it was evening when we went into the sea, and I’ve been swimming for at most an hour. How could the sun have been up by the next day?”

“After figuring it out, I felt a chill run down my spine. I didn’t dare swim towards the light, so I swam in the opposite direction.”

Laura paused here.

“Then, as I swam, my head hit a rock. It was probably a rock; it seems like that’s the only thing on the seabed… Anyway, it knocked me unconscious. When I woke up, I saw the two of you.”

A rock on the seabed?

Octaville became serious.

"Let me elaborate on the underwater reefs."
